The Braun Cruzer 6 Beard and Head Trimmer is a moderately priced two-in-one hand-held trimmer that is perfectly designed for both beards and head hair, making it an all in one grooming device. The build quality is excellent and is immediately apparent once you start using the Braun Cruzer 6 beard trimmer. The Cruzer 6 should be listed under the best beard trimmers 2017.
What’s in the Braun Cruzer 6 beard trimmer Box
The contents of the box are uncluttered. You will only find the hair guard, the beard guard (Braun likes to call these combs) a travel pouch, the charger and the trimmer itself. The hair guard is what you attach to the trimmer when you want to give yourself a haircut. The changeover from beard guard to hair guard is next to effortless. A simple flick of the lock and it slides out without much protest. The same goes for sliding in the alternate guard. Once it’s in and locked everything works as it should.
The beard trimmer allows me to choose between six preset lengths between 1 and 11 mm. The second guard, the hair guard, allows me to choose six different settings as well. In this case the lengths are between 10 and 20 mm.
Besides the primary trimmer that clips the beard and the hair, the Braun also comes with an auxiliary trimmer that extends from the rear of the unit. This is a smaller edge that is ideal for getting between the lip and the beard or goatee line. It is also ideal to get behind the years and sculpt hard to reach areas with the regular trim edge.
One of the other key success factor with a successful trimmer is the combination of a powerful battery and sharp blades. The Braun 6 beard trimmer comes with a dual battery pack that delivers consistent power to the powerful motors. The result is an effortless glide across even the most stubborn growth. The dual batteries need only an hour’s charge from either a 110v outlet or a 240voutlet, making it one of the fastest charging and most convenient beard trimmers that are currently available. I love this feature because it takes a short while to get the juice I need to shave and that one hour of charge gives me 40 minutes of use.
Because the blades are rust proof and the internal mechanisms and electronics are watertight, the Braun 6 beard trimmer can be used in wet and dry conditions. It also means that you can rinse the blade mechanism and unit in running water. This is the part that I like the most.
Keeping the blades clean is simple with the ability to place it in running water. The LED indicator also leaves little to the imagination and doubt. The indicator shows the exact level of charge and whether it is coming close to requiring another charge. It may seem like a small feature, but without the LED it is difficult to keep track of the battery’s condition and helps to avoid those rushed mornings when you suddenly notice you’re beard trimmer’s battery is flat and you need a quick trim!
The Good and Bad
Most of the features that are designed into the Braun Cruzer 6 beard trimmer are obviously well thought out and built well. I like number of things that the Cruzer provides me. The first is the comfortable grip that is aided by the rubberized layer that shields part of the body. It is placed in just the right places to provide the right grip. When fiddling with a precision instrument that sculpts one’s beard and hair, it is always a good thing to have good grip. Good grip translates to zero mistakes and precise handling.
The other thing that is done well is the use of two separate blades, one broader than the other. The broader blade allows the trimming a larger area faster and the narrow head allows for getting in to nooks and crannies. Especially when you want to trim the areas around the goatee and below the nose, having a narrow head, makes a big difference.
I also like how quiet this is. I used to think that if I wanted a powerful motor, I would have to put up with the vibration and the noise. But with the Braun, that stereotype is proven to be untrue. Even with its powerful motor, there is muted vibration and just a barely audible hum. The sound of the bristles being cut is louder than the motor of the trimmer itself.
The trimmer is fairly small and in the hands of an average man, it sits almost fully enclosed with just the shaving head protruding from the loosely clenched fist. The weight, which is also inconsequential, makes the entire experience comfortable and effortless. Between the easily washable shaving head, the second trimmer at the back for hard to reach places, the easy length selectors, the powerful motor and the rapid charge batteries, I am a pretty happy camper with this trimmer.
There are a few things that I would pick on and I am sure for the price that this retails for, the folks at Braun could look into for the subsequent models. The first things is that is doesn’t have an integrated vacuum. There are comparably priced models that do have a vacuum system. Granted this one trims better, but the vacuum system would allow me to extend the usability and functionality of the trimmer.
Second, and I am nitpicking here, is that they should have some nicer colors rather than just the same ones to pick from. But that is purely a matter of aesthetics and not functionality.
The Final Word
Overall, the Braun Cruzer 6 beard trimmer is a solid purchase. It is well designed and easily maneuverable. It comes with a great warranty, backed by a strong name in personal grooming. I’ve never had to use the warranty, but I’ve read review upon review of how they’ve backed up their product at every turn, even in the face of silliness. For someone like me who picks up the trimmer daily, the Braun Cruzer 6 beard trimmer delivers exactly what is needed with zero hassle. Exactly what you need in the morning.
